at this strange phenomenon I doubt whether he went with any sense of spiritual awe; he was just interested and inquisitive. But as he came near to the bush that seemed to burn brighter and brighter he heard the voice of God—and the whole inquiry changed direction. God began to speak to Moses, telling him that he must go back to Egypt and set the people free from their slavery to the Egyptians. God promised to bring them out to this very mountain and to set the people in a marvellous land that was
